GJC West Hangar III
38,000 SQ FT
Roles & Responsibilities
LEE Companies, LEED Certified Builder, managed the construction of this LEED Gold Certified Airplane Hangar. Built for corporate aircraft storage and maintenance, this 38,000 square foot structure can house up to 25 piper cubs (one-pilot/one-passenger planes) or six passenger jets. This project, for The Gary Jet Center, features an electrically operating automatic sliding 240 ft x 28 ft pocket door. The hangar consumes 46% less energy overall compared to similarly sized buildings thanks to insulated metal panel siding and roofing. The large industrial fans throughout, used for destratification year round, also help reduce energy consumption. Diamond Hard finished cement floors reduce surface absorption and allow for regular maintenance without compromising the flooring.
Varco Pruden pre-engineered products include frames, roofs, walls and panels – as well as finished accessories. Steel system construction can be combined with advanced building materials, including glass, brick, stone, and concrete to create functionally-appealing structures, including schools, municipal buildings, warehouses, office buildings, and manufacturing plants.
